Guidance on mainstreaming biodiversity for nutrition and health

This guidance aims to support the development of cross‑sectoral interventions and policies that promote healthy, diverse, sustainable and resilient diets in the context of ecological degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change.

It presents evidence on how biodiversity underpins nutrition, food security and ecosystem services, highlighting risks from biodiversity loss and opportunities to enhance dietary quality through diverse, nutrient‑rich foods. The guidance outlines six core building blocks for mainstreaming biodiversity into food systems to support healthier and more sustainable diets, including: knowledge development, enabling environments, integration into policies, conservation and sustainable use, education and awareness, and monitoring and evaluation.
