Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework

The Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) Framework is a practical, flexible approach that helps public health professionals and health authorities understand, prepare for, and respond to the health impacts of climate change. It guides users through a structured process to assess climate and health threats, collaborate with communities, and design context‑appropriate adaptation strategies. The framework prioritizes justice, equity, and belonging, recognizing that effective climate action must reduce disparities and address the systemic factors that make some populations more vulnerable to climate‑related harms. BRACE includes six key elements, each supported by specific tactics that outline how to implement public health climate action. The accompanying BRACE Implementation Guide offers worksheets, resources, and action‑oriented tools, enabling organizations with varying capacities to adopt and apply the framework. Training resources are also available to build the skills needed to advance climate resilience and health equity in partnership with communities.
