Brazilian Association of One Health (Associação Brasileira de Saúde Única)
The Brazilian Association of One Health (ABRASUNI), founded in 2024, and formerly known as Brazilian One Health Network established in 2017, is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the One Health approach in Brazil and Latin America. One Health integrates human, animal, plants and environmental health to address complex global challenges, including the health impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
With members from diverse sectors—academia, government, NGOs, others —ABRASUNI fosters interdisciplinary collaboration through research, policy advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives. Our technical expertise includes zoonotic disease surveillance, ecosystem health monitoring, disasters, food safety/security, antimicrobial resistence, and climate-resilient health systems, directly supporting the COP Health Programme Commitments. For instance, ABRASUNI has contributed to Brazil's National One Health Strategy, enhancing surveillance for climate-driven outbreaks like dengue and vector-borne diseases exacerbated by extreme weather.
We provide evidence-based technical support to policymakers, including risk assessments for vulnerable populations and training programs on climate adaptation in health sectors. During the Global Conference on Climate and Health in Brasília and preparations for COP30 in Belém in 2025, ABRASUNI collaborated on the Belém Health Action Plan using contributions from Brazilian Climate and One Health National Plans, integrating One Health principles to build resilient communities. Our work aligns with the goals by promoting equitable health outcomes, reducing emissions in health systems, and strengthening global partnerships for sustainable development.
Supporting the following commitments:
- Commitment 1: Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
- Commitment 2: Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
