The acceptance of these two roles by the COP31 host country carries forward the health focus of past COPs, ensuring health continues to be considered in climate negotiations.
The next UNFCCC Convention of the parties (COP) will be held in Antalya, Türkiye with the vision of COP31 being an “Implementation COP.” As the Alliance for transformative action, ATACH will benefit from the momentum and enthusiasm for action that Türkiye brings to COP31.
“Türkiye sees the ATACH as an important instrument of the health response to fight against today’s biggest health crisis” - Professor Dr Nurullah Okumus, Deputy Minister of Health, Republic of Türkiye.
The 10 priority themes of COP31 includes Dynamic and Resilient Health Systems – a key component of the ATACH mandate. COP31 seeks to promote the development of climate-resilient, low-carbon, sustainable and equity-focused health systems. This vision will be backed by integrated policy tools, data-driven strategies to manage climate and health risks, informed infrastructure investments, multi-hazard early warning systems and a climate informed and prepared health workforce.
ATACH welcomes the “Implementation COP” and looks forward to the bridging of gaps between commitments and real-world progress. Building climate-resilient, low-carbon and equity-focused health systems for the future will protect human health and ATACH will continue to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing to accelerate climate and health action at the country level.
