This technical briefing aims to support policy-makers and health authorities in advancing climate‑resilient health systems that protect populations from current and future climate‑related threats.
It presents an overview of the evidence on the health impacts of climate change, highlighting the wide range of climate‑sensitive health risks including heat stress, vector‑borne diseases, food and water insecurity, and impacts on vulnerable populations and describing how these risks interact with social determinants of health. The briefing also outlines priority actions for strengthening health system resilience, with examples of interventions in essential health sector functions needed to respond effectively, including governance, workforce capacity, information systems, service delivery, emergency preparedness, and financing. The briefing also identifies opportunities for integrating health into national adaptation planning and fostering multisectoral collaboration.
