Climate change is intensifying health risks worldwide, amplifying disease burdens, and exposing vulnerable populations to new and worsening threats, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

This report offers countries a set of options of adaptable, cost-beneficial actions to strengthen health sector adaptation and resilience in the face of climate change.

The report identifies eight promising, high-value actions for health sector adaptation:

  • Implemented Heat Action Plans
  • Integrated Surveillance and Early Warning and Response Systems
  • Climate-Resilient Health Infrastructure
  • Drone-Based Medical Supply Chain Delivery
  • Community Health Worker-Led Climate-Health Education for Communities
  • Text-Based Telehealth Services for Climate-Affected Populations
  • Mental Health Services for Climate-Affected Populations
  • Mosquito Vector Control.

The report also spotlights proven, cost-effective clinical interventions from the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition that can support climate adaptation, highlighting opportunities where investment can deliver both immediate health benefits and long-term resilience to climate change. This report is a resource for countries seeking to translate climate-health commitments into investments and action that deliver measurable results.

This resource was developed by the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and KfW with support from partners, including as part of the ATACH Task Team on Best Buys for climate change and health interventions.
