“Reusables first” is a procurement approach that prioritizes reusable products and devices over single-use disposables whenever possible and clinically appropriate.

It was developed by CASCADES (Creating a Sustainable Canadian Health System in a Climate Crisis) in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, who are establishing a reusables first approach as part of their sustainable procurement program. CASCADES is funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada to support the implementation of sustainable healthcare practices and policies in Canada.
