Wellcome is a global charitable foundation based in London, dedicated to improving health through scientific research. Through its Climate and Health challenge area, Wellcome has become a major funder of climate and health-related research, working to achieve a mission of putting health at the heart of climate change action.
To realise this, Wellcome has mobilised teams from across the organisation to deliver a whole-of-Wellcome approach to climate and health, with three priority goals:
- A transdisciplinary ecosystem of C&H stakeholders enables an urgent global response to the health impacts of climate change
- A robust, impact-oriented C&H global evidence base defines context-specific climate action
- C&H evidence drives action by decision-makers
Through these efforts, Wellcome aims to foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and communities to explore how climate impacts health outcomes, develop innovative solutions that enhance public health resilience in the face of a changing climate, inform evidence-based strategies that can mitigate health risks associated with climate change and promote healthier futures for all.
Through the organisation’s expertise and work on climate and health, Wellcome aims to contribute strongly to the delivery of ATACH and the COP26 Health programme.
