The Roya Commonwealth Society for the Blind/Sightsaver incorporates climate action as a cross cutting priority in each of their thematic strategies. As part of their Eye Health portfolio they have developed Sustainable Vision Centres for climate resilient facilities and are developing an Environmental Sustainability Toolkit for use in health care facilities to support sustainable low carbon health systems.
In Tanzania they have been working with the Ministry of Health to review and update the HNAP and has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health in making its work more environmentally sustainable and responding to the negative effects of climate change including using the WHO's Green Checklist assessment tool and they are now working to help address gaps identified.
Supporting the following commitments
- Commitment 1: Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
- Commitment 2: Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
