Nossal Institute for Global Health

Nossal Institute for Global Health is a Centre of global health expertise housed within the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.  We focus on strengthening the health systems for populations across the Asia Pacific region. We use a systems lens, to understand the impact of strategies and programs on people’s health and wellbeing. Our experts explore, connect, and assess decisions, policies, and strategies made in different settings for their impact on the health and wellness of people.

We work with the five countries from the Asia Pacific region that have already committed to building low carbon health systems. We aim to initiate and participate in discussions and reflections on the work of transforming health systems in our region, actively participate in working groups, and network with regional and global partners to share knowledge, information, and experience, support and motivate like-minded governments and other nonstate actors, and drive forward the ATACH agenda for the benefit of low-income settings in the Asia Pacific.

Supporting the following commitments:

  • Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
  • Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
  • Develop an action plan or roadmap by a set date to develop a sustainable low carbon health system (including supply chains).

Country experience:

Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Vietnam
