Health Care Without Harm works to transform health care worldwide so it reduces its environmental footprint, becomes a community anchor for sustainability and a leader in the global movement for environmental health and justice. Health Care Without Harm is working with several governments in high and low-middle income countries to support and model the implementation of net zero, climate resilient health systems. We have developed the Climate Impact Checkup Tool, which is in use in more than 25 countries, working both with health systems in private and public settings to provide technical assistance in the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions; and provide technical assistance to countries aiming to develop action plans or roadmaps to low carbon health systems. We also provide technical assistance to countries that want to conduct V&As at the health care facility level and develop HNAPs.
Supporting the following commitments:
- Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
- Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
- Deliver a baseline assessment of greenhouse gas emissions of the health system (including supply chains).
- Develop an action plan or roadmap by a set date to develop a sustainable low carbon health system (including supply chains).
