The Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) is the peak representative body for all 18,000+ medical students in Australia. We promote equitable health outcomes for all communities and inform issues relating to medical education and the health workforce. Through our Global Health division, we use our subject matter expertise and networks to advocate for climate and health adaptation and resiliency in Australia and internationally. Our ongoing relationships with the government and non-governmental sectors enable us to co-design evidence-based policies and programs in support of ATACH and the COP26 Health Programme Commitments. The diversity and shared knowledge of our students, their lived experience, and that of their patients and communities all inform our strategy for climate change.

Supporting the following commitments:

  • Commitment 1: Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
  • Commitment 2: Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
  • Commitment 3: Use the V&A and HNAP to facilitate access to climate change funding for health.
