Appui Solidarité pour le Renforcement de l’Aide au Développement (ASRAD)
ASRAD Mali (Support for the Strengthening of Development Assistance) is a national non-governmental organization established in 2010 and dedicated to strengthening climate resilience, public health, environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, sustainable livelihoods, and community development in Mali and the Sahel. The organization works closely with governments, local communities, academia, and international partners to design and implement integrated solutions that address the interconnected challenges of climate change and health.
ASRAD Mali holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is an Observer Organization to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and IPBES, while also being an Accredited Organization with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The organization has strong technical expertise in climate adaptation, climate-resilient health systems, community-based disaster risk reduction, environmental health, biodiversity conservation, water and sanitation, sustainable agriculture, and capacity building. ASRAD actively supports the implementation of climate and health commitments through policy dialogue, community engagement, technical training, multi-stakeholder partnerships, and advocacy. As a member of the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), ASRAD contributes to advancing the COP26 Health Programme commitments by promoting resilient, low-carbon, and equitable health systems while ensuring that vulnerable populations remain at the center of climate action.
Supporting the following commitments:
Commitment 1: Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
Commitment 2: Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
Commitment 3: Use the V&A and HNAP to facilitate access to climate change funding for health.
Commitment 4: Set a target date by which to achieve health systems net zero emissions (ideally by 2050).
Commitment 5: Deliver a baseline assessment of greenhouse gas emissions of the health system (including supply chains).
