About the Adaptation Fund

Since 2010, the Adaptation Fund has committed over US$ 1.6 billion for climate change adaptation and resilience projects and programmes, including 226 tangible, localized projects on the ground in the most vulnerable communities of developing countries around the world supporting over 90 million total beneficiaries. The Fund finances concrete, country-driven adaptation solutions that help communities strengthen resilience to climate impacts, while advancing innovative approaches, locally led adaptation, and direct access to climate finance. It also supports learning, knowledge sharing, and readiness activities that help countries build long-term adaptive capacity and access larger-scale climate finance opportunities.

Engagement in Climate and Health Adaptation

Through its country-driven financing model, the Adaptation Fund supports national health priorities through direct investments in health outcomes and broader health-system resilience. These efforts span interconnected areas such as water, food security, sanitation, disaster risk reduction, early warning systems and urban adaptation.

The Fund has invested more than US$260 million in over 33 projects across more than 30 countries, including Fiji, Lao PDR, Ghana and Malaysia. These investments account for approximately 21% of its portfolio, with more than 38% of the health-related portfolio directly targeting health outcomes. The Adaptation Fund Board has also endorsed the Guiding Principles for Financing Climate and Health Solutions, developed with global health organizations, to advance international health commitments. With the World Health Organization (WHO) serving as an accredited entity, demand has grown substantially for investments in climate-resilient health systems across more than 14 countries, representing over US$70 million in the active pipeline.
