Wemos
Wemos is a foundation based in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1979 and has since then been dedicated to structurally improving health worldwide. Wemos leads programmes on equitable access to medicines, financing for health systems, improving the health workforce and creating inclusive health systems through access to sexual and reproductive health services for all.
With a dedicated team of experts and partners around the world, we influence policy and bring about structural change. We identify root causes of inequities, present solutions, and call for action. Our work improves systems for health, and the well-being of people across the world. We work in partnerships, we build evidence and we use these partnerships and evidence to lobby and advocate for change. As an organization based in the Netherlands, we convince our Dutch government and by extension the European Union and global health institutions to actively support structural changes.
Climate change is one of the biggest threads to health worldwide, with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged are disproportionally affected. Tackling the broad systemic determinants of health thus requires a planetary health lens. Wemos is increasingly applying and integrating this planetary health lens in its work towards health systems strengthening.
