The Geneva Learning Foundation
The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) is a non-profit foundation based in Switzerland with deep experience supporting frontline health workers in low-resource settings through innovative peer learning-to-action networks. TGLF's mission aligns with the goals of building climate-resilient, sustainable health systems and empowering local actors.
With a growing network of over 50,000 health workers on the frontline of climate change and health, TGLF is supporting learning and action on the ground by health professionals who are already supporting vulnerable communities facing impact of climate on health. Our first learning programme on the climate crisis in July 2023 reached over 4,700 frontline practitioners who shared observations of intersecting issues of climate, health, and community resilience.
TGLF is well-positioned to contribute to the Climate Resilient Health Systems and Low Carbon Sustainable Health Systems working groups within ATACH. TGLF’s proven networked learning models support combining global and indigenous knowledge into local action, at massive scale. As an independent Swiss non-profit, TGLF aims to apply its specialized experience to strengthen the climate resilience of local health systems.
Supporting the following commitments:
- Conduct climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments (V&As) at population level and/or health care facility level.
- Develop a health national adaptation plan (HNAP) informed by the health V&A, which forms part of the National Adaptation Plan.
- Use the V&A and HNAP to facilitate access to climate change funding for health.
- Set a target date by which to achieve health systems net zero emissions (ideally by 2050).
- Deliver a baseline assessment of greenhouse gas emissions of the health system (including supply chains).
- Develop an action plan or roadmap by a set date to develop a sustainable low carbon health system (including supply chains).
Country experience:
The Geneva Learning Foundation develops and implements cross-cutting programmes that support local action across all six commitments.
